OUR OSCAR NOMINEES : THE ARKIve NOMINEES

Glitz, glamour and golden gongs - it’s that time of year again when the crème de la crème of Hollywood’s film and acting talent gathers on the red carpet for the film industry's most illustrious awards ceremony, the 83rd Academy Awards.

Honouring the greatest films of 2010, this year’s Oscar nominees feature everything from the mind-boggling Inception to the heart-warming How to Train Your Dragon.  As Sunday’s ceremony draws closer, predictions as to who will walk away with one of the coveted gold-plated statuettes are heating up. Leading the pack is The King’s Speech, which appears to have the critics’ royal seal of approval with an impressive 12 nominations.

As millions of movie lovers await the judges’ verdict, we have dived into our pool of over 12,000 talented species to find the biggest and most award-worthy stars the animal kingdom has to offer. While Colin Firth may be commended for his moving portrayal in The King’s Speech, the African grey parrot could deliver an equally compelling performance and reign supreme. The Social Network is one of the favourites to win the Best Picture category, but watching a busy hive of honey bees would create a real buzz on the big screen.

So without further ado, let’s introduce the nominees for ARKive’s Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Costume categories.
